How to Add Fades to Audio in 4 Easy Steps

  1. 01

    Attach Your Audio

attach your audio file in the chat. We support MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, and even video files to extract audio from.

  2. 02

    Set Fade Durations

Use the sliders to set your desired fade-in and fade-out durations. You can apply just a fade-in, just a fade-out, or both at the same time.

  3. 03

    Choose a Curve Type

Select Linear for a constant-rate fade or Exponential for a more natural-sounding transition that mimics how we perceive volume changes.

  4. 04

    Preview & Download

ask Magica to apply Apply Fade your audio, preview the result with the built-in waveform player, then download your faded audio file.

What Makes Our Audio Fade Tool Special

Fine-tune fade-in and fade-out durations independently with 0.1-second precision, giving you exact control over your transitions.

Two Curve Types

Choose Linear for a steady, constant-rate fade, or Exponential for a natural-sounding curve that matches how human hearing perceives volume changes.

Complete Privacy

Your audio never leaves your device. All processing happens entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API.

Multiple Format Support

Tips for Best Results with Audio Fades

Tip 1

Use short fades for music transitions

A 1-3 second fade works well for most music tracks. Longer fades are better for ambient or cinematic audio.

Tip 2

Try exponential for a natural sound

Exponential fades sound more natural because they mimic how our ears perceive volume changes. Start with exponential and switch to linear only if you need a mechanical, constant-rate effect.

Tip 3

Match fade durations to your content

Podcasts and voiceovers typically need shorter fades (0.5-2s), while music and ambient tracks benefit from longer, gradual transitions.

Tip 4

Use fade-out to end loops cleanly

If you have an audio loop or sample that ends abruptly, even a 0.3-second fade-out can eliminate the click or pop at the end.

Frequently Asked Questions About Audio Fading

Is this audio fade tool really free?

This workflow is available through Magica; access and usage follow your Magica plan.

What is the difference between linear and exponential fades?

A linear fade changes volume at a constant rate — the volume drops or rises by the same amount each moment. An exponential fade changes volume more gradually at first, then accelerates. Exponential fades often sound more natural because they match how human hearing perceives loudness.

Can I apply just a fade-in or just a fade-out?

Absolutely. Set the fade you don't need to 0 seconds and only the other fade will be applied. You can also apply both simultaneously.

What happens if fade-in and fade-out overlap?

The tool will warn you if the combined fade durations exceed the audio length. In that case, both fades are automatically clamped to half the audio duration so they don't conflict.

What audio formats are supported?

You can upload MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, M4A files, and even video files (MP4, MOV, WebM) to extract audio from. Output is available as WAV for lossless quality.

How long does processing take?

Processing is quick since everything runs locally on your device. Most files under 10 minutes process in a few seconds.

Is my audio uploaded to your servers?

Magica handles the requested processing as part of your agent workflow.

What is the maximum fade duration?

You can set fades up to 10 seconds long. The slider automatically adjusts its maximum to match your audio's duration if the file is shorter than 10 seconds.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes! Our fade tool works on smartphones, tablets, and computers. Just open it in your browser. Note that processing may be slightly slower on mobile devices.

Can I apply fades to audio extracted from a video file?

Yes! Upload any video file (MP4, MOV, WebM) and the tool will extract the audio automatically. Apply your fade settings and download the faded audio for use in your video projects.
