Precision Silence Detection
Uses RMS amplitude analysis with configurable thresholds to accurately distinguish silence from speech, music, and ambient noise.
Automatically detect and remove silent sections from audio
Automatically detect and strip silent sections from your audio files. Our silence remover uses amplitude threshold scanning and RMS analysis to precisely identify dead air, then cleanly removes it — through your Magica conversation.
attach your audio file in the chat. We support MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, and even video files to extract audio from.
Set the silence threshold (how quiet counts as silence) and the minimum duration (how long a pause must be to get removed). The defaults work well for most recordings.
Click 'Detect Silence' to scan your audio. Review the results showing how many silent regions were found, total silence duration, and expected output length.
Click 'Remove Silence' to strip out the detected silent sections. Preview the result with the built-in waveform player, then download your tightened audio.

All detection and removal runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. No uploads, no waiting for server processing.
Your audio never leaves your device. All processing happens entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.
Input MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, M4A, or extract audio from video files. Download as high-quality WAV.
Whether you're editing podcasts, tightening lectures, or cleaning up voice memos, our silence remover saves you hours of manual editing.
Remove awkward dead air between segments. Tighten interview recordings by automatically stripping long pauses and silences.
Condense recorded lectures by removing silent gaps where you paused to think or transition. Students get a tighter, more engaging recording.
Clean up raw voice recordings by removing pauses between takes. Get a polished continuous recording ready for post-production.
Speed up your editing workflow by automatically removing dead air from commentary, tutorials, and narration recordings.
Trim recorded meetings and calls by removing silent stretches. Create shorter, more focused recordings that are easier to review.
Clean up multi-take recording sessions by removing silence between takes. Quickly compile the best portions of a recording session.
The default threshold of -40 dB and minimum duration of 0.5 seconds works well for most speech recordings. Detect first, then adjust if needed.
If your recording has background noise, try a lower threshold (e.g., -50 dB or -60 dB) so only truly silent parts are detected, not quiet ambient sections.
Studio recordings with very low noise floors can use a higher threshold (e.g., -30 dB) to catch even the quietest pauses.
Short pauses (under 0.3s) are natural in speech. Set the minimum duration to 0.5s or higher to preserve conversational rhythm while removing only noticeable dead air.
This workflow is available through Magica; access and usage follow your Magica plan.
This Magica workflow analyzes the audio in small windows (1024 samples) and calculates the RMS (root mean square) amplitude of each window across all channels. Windows below your chosen threshold are marked as silent. Consecutive silent windows that exceed the minimum duration become silent regions.
The threshold determines how quiet audio must be to count as silence. Lower values (like -60 dB) mean only very quiet audio is considered silent. Higher values (like -20 dB) will detect quieter sounds as silence too. The default of -40 dB works well for most recordings.
This controls the minimum length a silent section must be to get removed. Set it higher (e.g., 1.0s) to only remove long pauses, or lower (e.g., 0.1s) to also catch short gaps. The default of 0.5s preserves natural speech rhythm.
You can upload MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, M4A files, and even video files (MP4, MOV, WebM) to extract audio from. Output is available as WAV for lossless quality.
The tool cuts at the exact boundaries of detected silent regions. Since these boundaries are already at near-zero amplitude, transitions are smooth and click-free in the vast majority of cases.
Magica handles the requested processing as part of your agent workflow.
Yes! Our silence remover works on smartphones, tablets, and computers. Just open it in your browser. Processing may be slightly slower on mobile devices.
The original file is never modified. You can always re-upload and try different settings. The tool always works on the original audio, not the output.
Yes! Upload any video file (MP4, MOV, WebM) and the tool will extract the audio automatically. Detect and remove silence, then download the processed audio for use in your video projects.
