This blog post explores the concept of time from a spiritual perspective, emphasizing the eternal nature of existence and the importance of focusing on spiritual growth rather than temporary material concerns, especially as we transition into a new year.
Haribol Gauranga and peace be with you. Today, we find ourselves at the beautiful temple of Anchor Wat, a serene setting that inspires deep contemplation about the nature of time. Many people often express feelings of not having enough time or the need to set deadlines. In this reflection, we will explore the eternal aspects of existence and how they relate to our understanding of time.
First and foremost, I offer my respects to all spiritual masters and scriptures, as well as to the Lord in my heart, Parama Mama. Through deep contemplation and meditation, we can discover profound truths about existence. As stated by various acharyas and confirmed in scriptures, the Supreme Person, Krishna, is eternal.
The five aspects that make up the entire cosmic creation include:
All these elements are eternal. While karma—our actions—can be good or bad, it is not eternal. Karma functions like a bank account that can grow or diminish, but it is ultimately temporary.
As we approach New Year's Eve, we recognize these milestones as significant points throughout the year and the seasons. Currently, we are deep in winter in the Northern Hemisphere and experiencing summer in the Southern Hemisphere. This time of year serves as a reminder to immerse ourselves in the river of time and to understand that we have eternity at our disposal.
Many of us seek certainty and stability in our lives, often looking for these qualities in the temporary names and forms of the material world. However, as Christ of Nazareth and the Buddha of Bethlehem wisely advised, we should look within. The kingdom of God and its righteousness reside within us. By seeking this inner truth, we can find fulfillment and peace.
The concept of Sat Chit Ananda Vigraha represents the eternal form of bliss and knowledge. It is essential to recognize that while some may fear the idea of form, believing it to be material, spiritual forms exist in the spiritual realm. Just as we have material forms in our world, spiritual forms are equally valid and diverse.
Time is endless and eternal, much like space, which is infinite. The rhythm of existence can be likened to the breath—contracting and expanding, similar to the tides that flow in and out. The ocean of existence remains constant, regardless of these fluctuations.
As we transition into a New Year, it is perfectly acceptable to acknowledge the temporary milestones of time. However, it is far more enriching to meditate on our eternal nature. We are eternal beings; you, I, and the Supreme Being are all eternal. The universes and time itself are eternal.
As we conclude this reflection, I extend a heartfelt wish for all beings to experience happiness, peace, and freedom. Let us invest our time—our eternity—in the beautiful river of existence. May peace be with you always. Namaste, Haribol Gauranga.
