Good morning! It is a delight to gather in the house of the Lord once again. At Stillman College, we cherish our Trel Chapel Tradition, a moment for alumni, faculty, staff, and current students to pause, reflect, and worship together. This gathering allows us to silence distractions, take a deep breath, and express gratitude for the gift of life and the blessings we receive from God.
As we prepare for worship, it is essential to be present. Let us block out distractions and focus on the moment. We acknowledge the leadership of our college, including President Dr. Yolanda W. Page, Provost Dr. Martin McCormick, and Vice President for Student Success Dr. Roland Bullet Jr. Their dedication to our community is invaluable.
We begin our service with a call to worship, recognizing God's omnipresence and mercy. As we sing together, let us lift our voices in gratitude and praise, acknowledging the love that surrounds us.
Today’s message is centered on the theme of "God's Love," inspired by Romans 5:8-10. The scripture reminds us that God demonstrates His love for us through Christ, even while we were still sinners. This profound truth invites us to reflect on the nature of God's love and its implications for our lives.
The first point to consider is that God's love culminates in Christ. The Bible, with its 66 books, presents various narratives about God. However, Hebrews 1:1-2 emphasizes that God has spoken to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, who embodies the fullness of God's character. Understanding God through the lens of Jesus allows us to see that God is not a figure of wrath but one of love and grace.
Secondly, we must recognize that God's love is certain in Christ, regardless of our circumstances. Many people mistakenly believe that God's love is contingent upon their life situations—blessings equate to love, while hardships suggest abandonment.
