After visiting Japan multiple times and moving there in 2022, I can attest to its beauty and cleanliness. The country is remarkably safe, with an efficient public transportation system that allows most residents to navigate without cars. The Japanese people are generally respectful and hardworking, striving for excellence in their endeavors.
However, beneath this vibrant surface lies a profound spiritual need that many Christians may not fully grasp. Japan is facing a spiritual crisis, and as someone who cares deeply for this nation, I have compiled three prayer requests to raise awareness and support for Japanese Christians.
In Matthew 9:37, Jesus tells His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few." This sentiment resonates deeply with my experience in Japan. With a population of approximately 124 million, the Christian community in Japan constitutes only about 1% of the total population, translating to roughly 1 to 2 million believers. Many Japanese people do not even recognize what it means to be a Christian, as a Japanese pastor informed me that the actual number of Christians might be less than 1%.
The average church size in Japan is around 12 to 23 members, and the number of individuals attending church weekly is even lower. This stark reality highlights the urgent need for more pastors, teachers, evangelists, and missionaries to come to Japan.
