As we begin our service, let us rise for our call to worship. In this season of Advent, we light the candle of Peace, remembering the angel's words to Mary: "Do not be afraid, for you have found favor with God." Let us prepare our hearts for Christ's coming.
Today, we light the first candle of Advent, the candle of hope, reminding us of the hope that shines in the darkness. As the prophet Isaiah declared, "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light."
We also light the second candle, the candle of Peace, which reminds us of the peace that only Christ can bring. We echo the heavenly hosts who proclaim, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
Heavenly Father, we thank you for sending your son Jesus to be the light of the world. As we light these candles, may their glow remind us of your promises that never fail. Fill our hearts with hope and let your peace rule in us as we seek to follow your ways. Come, Lord Jesus, and make your home among us. Amen.

Gabriel, one of God's chief messengers, appeared to Mary, greeting her with the words, "Do not be afraid, for you have found favor with God." This moment marks a significant turning point in history, as Mary is told she will conceive a son, Jesus, who will reign forever.
