When I started this YouTube channel in 2018, I flew to India to make my first-ever videos. Six years later, I’m back, a little bit fatter, to see how things have progressed in Hindustan. Join me on a trip down memory lane.
Upon arriving in New Delhi, I was immediately reminded of the vibrant chaos that defines the city. Jumping into a taxi or a rickshaw, I was back on the familiar streets, ready to explore. The traffic was as hectic as I remembered, but I was determined to give India a chance after my six-year absence.
My first stop was Bahad Ganj, a place where many foreigners and locals come to buy cheap goods before heading off to various parts of India. I reminisced about my past experiences here, including my worst video where I attempted to direct traffic. Despite the years, the friendly faces were still there, and I was greeted warmly by locals who recognized me from my previous visits.
One of my main concerns during this trip was to avoid getting ill. I stocked up on hand sanitizer, knowing that shaking hands with so many people was inevitable. The warmth of the Indian people was evident, as many expressed their appreciation for my videos.
I met a gentleman who offered to read my palm. He told me I was born to give orders and that I had a problem with my stomach and relationships. While his predictions were amusing, they were also completely wrong, showcasing the quirky charm of India.
I attempted to visit CH Bazar, a market I had filmed in the past, but upon arrival, I learned it was closed. Instead, I hopped on a cycle rickshaw to explore other areas. The rickshaw driver shared his story of traveling from Varanasi to Delhi for work, highlighting the economic challenges many face in India.
I found myself in Delhi's Old Spice Market, a place rich in history where spices were once traded across Central Asia. The vibrant colors and aromas were intoxicating, and I was reminded of the bustling trade that once flourished here.
As the day came to an end, I celebrated my return to India with a drink at a local bar, reminiscing about my journey and the changes I had witnessed. The chaos of Delhi was overwhelming, but it was also exhilarating.
The next morning, I boarded a train to Varanasi, the holy city on the banks of the Ganges. However, the train was delayed by several hours, leading to a chaotic experience at the station. I observed the struggles of fellow travelers, many of whom would spend days on the train without a proper bed.
Upon arriving in Varanasi, I was struck by the contrast between the city’s spiritual significance and the overwhelming hustle and bustle. I quickly found a hotel, but the experience was chaotic, with constant negotiations and haggling.
I took a boat ride on the Ganges, the holiest river in Hinduism. The experience was both beautiful and daunting, as I navigated the strong currents while reflecting on the significance of the river in Indian culture.
My journey continued to Kolkata, where I explored the remnants of British colonial architecture. I sought out a famous street food vendor, hoping to capture the essence of Indian street food culture. However, the search proved challenging, and I was left with a sense of nostalgia for the vibrant street life I had experienced in the past.
As my trip came to an end, I reflected on the changes in India over the past six years. While the country faces many challenges, the warmth and friendliness of its people remain unchanged.
