Traveling can be one of the most exhilarating experiences, especially when it involves spontaneous adventures. In this blog post, we recount our recent trip to Puerto Rico, where we sailed on a catamaran, explored beautiful beaches, and faced some unexpected challenges along the way.
The excitement began the night before our departure. I found myself in the car, ready to start the journey, with a catamaran stay awaiting us in Puerto Rico. As I packed my essentials—clothes, underwear, and swimsuits—I was determined not to overpack, despite my tendency to do so. With a 5:00 a.m. wake-up call looming, I managed to get some rest before the adventure began.
After a long journey, we arrived at the airport and made it through security just in time. By 7:30 a.m., we were on our way to the west side of the island, albeit with only a few hours of sleep. Our first destination was a freshwater spring, where we planned to swim and enjoy the natural beauty of the island.
As we drove towards our next stop, Survival Beach, we encountered some challenges. The heat was intense, and I found myself uncomfortable after spending too much time in my swimsuit. Isaac, however, was enjoying the water, while I struggled with my camera and the rocky terrain.
Our journey took an unexpected turn when we decided to take a less conventional route. We found ourselves stuck on a steep hill, contemplating whether to go down or turn back. After much deliberation, I opted to walk down, feeling the sweat pouring down my face as we navigated the tricky path.
On our way back to the car, we encountered some local wildlife, including a curious cow. The path was filled with obstacles, including cow dung and a fence we had to crawl through. Despite the challenges, we managed to make it back to civilization, albeit a bit worse for wear.
The next day brought new challenges. Isaac developed a case of poison ivy, marking his third encounter with it that summer. Our mission was to find a pharmacy to get him some medication before heading back to the sailboat. We made a quick stop at Costco, where we also grabbed some dinner.
The following morning, we set sail to explore nearby islands. The excitement was palpable, but the heat was overwhelming. I struggled to stay cool while preparing for our day on the water. Isaac's condition was improving, but he still had a cut on his foot and was dealing with the aftermath of poison ivy.
Once on the boat, we enjoyed diving into the crystal-clear waters. I attempted a front flip off the boat, which was a highlight of the day. However, I quickly realized that my sunburn was becoming quite severe after just one day in the sun.
As our trip came to an end, we faced one last hurdle: a hurricane was approaching, threatening our flight home. Despite the challenges we faced, from poison ivy to sunburns, our adventure in Puerto Rico was filled with unforgettable moments and laughter. We left with memories that would last a lifetime, eager to share our experiences in the next video.
