On a recent trip to the cabin, while driving home from dinner on dark roads, I ran over something I couldn't see. I heard a loud bang but didn't go off-road. Initially, everything seemed fine, but the next morning I discovered a flat tire. The culprit was a crack in one of my carbon fiber wheels.

I then took the wheel to a shop in Knoxville that had a touchless tire mounting machine, essential for handling carbon fiber rims without causing damage. After mounting the tire, we checked for leaks using soap and water and balanced the wheel with minimal weight added.
The total cost of repair and shipping was approximately $1,800:

In hindsight, purchasing a used wheel for around $3,000 might have been a better option. New wheels require the vehicle's VIN to purchase, and carbon fiber wheels have longer stud bolts, making them incompatible with standard C8 Corvettes without modifications.
The carbon fiber wheel option for the ZR1X now costs an additional $16,000. While the wheels are extremely light, the risk of damage and the high repair costs make me hesitant.
An alternative could be magnesium wheels, which are similarly lightweight and potentially less expensive. These might be a better choice for drag racing and everyday use.
