Good morning, Internet! It’s 7:10 AM, and I’m back in beautiful Wales, ready to embark on another adventure. Today, I’ll be riding through the breathtaking landscapes of Snowdonia, stopping for breakfast, and eventually making my way back to England. Let’s dive into this journey!
I start my day with a cup of coffee outside, soaking in the gorgeous morning. However, I realize I have no food, so I decide to ride to the next village in search of breakfast. As I sip my coffee, I can’t shake off the worry from last night when I was anxious about my motorcycle being stolen. It was parked right outside my window, and I spent the night listening for any suspicious sounds. But I remind myself that generally, people don’t steal bikes.
After my coffee, I pack up and check my route on the map. I’m excited to explore Northern Wales before heading back to England and down to Bristol.
As I ride through Snowdonia, I’m captivated by the lush forests and the magical atmosphere of the area. The name Snowdonia itself evokes images of fantasy worlds, reminiscent of Narnia and Snow White. The vegetation is rich, with moss growing on the rocks, and the scenery is simply stunning.
I encounter some challenging terrain with steep tracks and loose rocks. At one point, I face a hill that looks like a rock wall, and I quickly realize it’s too difficult to climb. I decide to turn back, which is often disappointing, but it leads me to discover a different route that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
On my ride, I come across a telephone box that has been transformed into a little library. I take the opportunity to drop off a free copy of my book for anyone who might find it. The weather in Wales is unpredictable; it was sunny in the morning, but now it’s starting to rain. I recall a conversation I had with someone in London about "nice rain," which is a charming way to describe the light drizzle.
I arrive in Beddgelert, a picturesque village that offers stunning views of the valley and a nearby lake. The route I’m taking hugs the mountains, providing breathtaking scenery at every turn. I’m truly enjoying this ride as I navigate through the beautiful landscapes.
As I continue my journey, I reach a place with the longest name in the world, which translates to St Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the church of St. Tysilio near the red cave. The Welsh language is fascinating, and I’m amazed by the complexity of the names here.
Next, I visit the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, an engineering marvel that is over 300 meters long and 220 years old. It took ten years to build, and it’s still in use today. Watching a little boat pass through the aqueduct is a delightful sight, and it’s a reminder of the rich history and ingenuity of the area.
As I approach the border between Wales and England, I reflect on my time in Wales. This is the last stop before heading back into England, and I feel a mix of emotions. I’ve created wonderful memories here, and I’m excited to return to Bristol, a place filled with fond recollections.
Upon entering England, I find myself in Worcester, a town known for its unpronounceable names. I’m on the lookout for a place to eat, particularly something that features Worcestershire sauce. However, to my surprise, the restaurant has run out of Worcestershire sauce! It’s a disappointing twist, but I’m determined to find something delicious.
After a long day of riding, I finally arrive in Bristol, where I’ll be staying for the night in a cozy caravan with a rooftop view. I can keep an eye on my bike, which gives me peace of mind. Today’s ride through Wales was absolutely incredible, filled with stunning landscapes, quirky towns, and memorable experiences. I hope you enjoyed this journey with me!
