In this blog, we share our journey from India to Europe, specifically detailing our experiences in Finland, Belgium, and Poland. Many viewers have requested our story, and we aim to provide a comprehensive account of our struggles and triumphs as we navigated life in a new continent.
We are originally from India, with roots in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. Before moving to Europe, I worked as a fitness trainer, while my partner was a teacher. Our desire to move abroad stemmed from a wish to improve our lives and explore new opportunities.
Our journey began with a desire to settle abroad. After considering various countries, we initially planned to move to the UK or Canada. However, due to budget constraints and family advice, we decided to explore Finland instead. We hoped that obtaining a study visa for Finland would provide us with a gateway to Europe.
On August 6, we landed in Finland on a study visa. The immigration process was challenging, but we managed to clear it successfully. The weather was a stark contrast to India, with cold winds greeting us as we stepped out of the airport. We initially stayed in a friend's apartment and began attending university classes while searching for jobs.
Despite our optimism, we quickly realized that finding a job in Finland was extremely difficult. The job market was tight, and the language barrier posed a significant challenge. We spent a month in the Jonkoping area, where we faced the harsh reality of unemployment and financial strain. Our initial excitement faded as we struggled to adapt to our new environment.
After a month of searching for jobs without success, we decided to move to Helsinki, the capital of Finland, hoping for better opportunities. However, the competition was fierce, and we faced similar challenges in finding employment. The struggle to secure a job while managing our limited finances became increasingly stressful.
As time passed, the emotional toll of our situation became evident. Friends who had accompanied us began to return to India, feeling demotivated by their own struggles. This left us feeling isolated and uncertain about our future in Finland. We realized that our dreams of a better life were slipping away, and we had to make a difficult decision.
On November 15, just two days before our planned return to India, I received a phone call that changed everything. A friend had arranged a job opportunity for us in Belgium, encouraging us not to return to India just yet. This unexpected chance reignited our hopes, and we decided to take a leap of faith.
On November 18, we flew to Belgium, excited about the new possibilities. We worked there for about 15 days, but soon another twist awaited us. We were advised to move to Poland, where we could secure better documentation and job opportunities. Despite our initial hesitation, we decided to embrace this new challenge.
On December 2, we embarked on a 48-hour bus journey to Poland. The travel was exhausting but also exhilarating, as I have a passion for exploring new places. Upon arrival, we were hopeful about the opportunities that awaited us in Poland, especially with the promise of job security and better living conditions.
Our journey from India to Europe has been filled with ups and downs, from the excitement of new beginnings to the harsh realities of immigration and job hunting. We have learned valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of support from friends and family. As we continue our journey in Poland, we remain hopeful for a brighter future and are committed to making the most of our experiences in Europe.
