The severe weather that swept through the South resulted in ground stops at two major airports in Dallas on Thursday. During this period, airlines canceled nearly 800 flights, and over 8,000 flights were delayed. This has left many passengers stranded and facing longer-than-expected travel times.
One traveler expressed frustration, stating, "We’re just traveling back to Cleveland after our Christmas family vacation and hopefully we’ll make our flight. It just keeps on getting delayed." Despite the weather-related issues, travel numbers are up. On a single day, more than 2.7 million passengers passed through security checkpoints, marking a 4% increase compared to the previous year. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipates that today will be even busier, prompting many travelers to arrive at the airport earlier than usual to navigate the longer lines.
As of today, there have already been at least 109 flight cancellations and over 4,000 delays reported across the country. While the weather has improved somewhat, forecasters warn that more severe weather could impact travel plans over the weekend.
