Welcome back to episode four of our race to claim the most countries in Europe. The competition is heating up as the teams strategize their next moves in a thrilling race across the continent.
As it stands, the score is 5-4. Ben and Adam have successfully claimed Liechtenstein, locked Switzerland, and stolen Germany, France, and Austria. Meanwhile, Tom and I have claimed the Netherlands and locked Belgium, Hungary, and Czechia. Our next target is Slovakia, which we initially thought would take longer to reach.
To our surprise, the train we thought didn’t exist actually does! We are now headed to Bratislava ahead of schedule, ready to lock in Slovakia quickly before making our way back to Vienna Airport for a flight to Copenhagen.
As we board the train, excitement fills the air. "Train! It exists," I exclaim, as we prepare for our journey. Meanwhile, Ben and Adam are at the airport, boarding their flight to Rome to claim Italy and Vatican City. The tension builds as we realize they might reach their destination before we can secure Slovakia.
Upon arriving in Bratislava, we have only 45 minutes to complete our challenge. We pull a card that states we must visit two castles and make a royal decree while wearing pointy hats. With time ticking away, we scramble to find materials for our hats and locate the nearest castle.
"Welcome to Slovakia!" we cheer as we step off the train. We quickly find a palace that counts as a castle and improvise our pointy hats from challenge materials. I declare, "I will not get any flack for confusing Slovenia and Slovakia earlier," as we rush to complete our task.
Meanwhile, Ben and Adam are on their flight to Rome, where they will attempt to claim Italy. They receive news of our success in Slovakia, which puts them in a precarious position as they land. We manage to lock Slovakia just in time and send a cheeky message to the other team, letting them know of our victory.
Upon landing in Rome, we celebrate our success in Slovakia. "Bienvenue al Italia!" I jokingly say, mixing languages as we prepare to claim Italy. However, we soon realize that we need to focus on locking both Italy and Vatican City before the day ends.
In the Vatican, we pull our challenge card, which instructs us to recreate Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam" while holding it above our heads. We gather our materials and find a suitable spot to create our masterpiece. As we draw, we remain vigilant, aware of the high crime rate in the area.
After successfully completing our challenge, we call Ben and Adam to inform them of our latest victories. "We have locked Italy and Vatican City!" we announce, reveling in our achievements. The score now stands at 6-5 in our favor.
As the day comes to a close, we discuss our next moves. With Ben and Adam likely to fly to Copenhagen, we need to strategize our approach for the next day. We consider our options carefully, weighing the risks and rewards of each potential flight.
