This epic knockout tournament occurs every couple of years, and in this edition, the top three finishers—gold, silver, and bronze—will secure spots in the next candidates tournament. This tournament is the largest contributor to the candidates, offering three different spots. While the reigning world champion, Gesha, is participating, nearly every notable player outside the top three in the world is also competing.

Instead of delving into that controversy, I want to focus on a statement made by Emil Sutovsky, the CEO of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), who suggested that Daniel's friends were to blame for not being there for him.
Had such a statement been made by any head of an international governing body in sports, that individual would likely no longer hold their position. This incident has led me to lose respect for FIDE, aside from the tournaments organized out of respect for the players and fans. I will continue to cover the World Cup, candidates, and world championship, but I will also be vocal about my concerns regarding FIDE's leadership and their handling of recent controversies, including cheating accusations.
Now, let’s focus on the chess. The tournament has already seen some exciting matchups. One notable game featured Lithuanian Grandmaster Titus Stramovicios against Grandmaster Wesley So. This match showcased a Queen's Gambit opening, with both players displaying aggressive strategies. Wesley attempted to provoke Titus into making mistakes, but ultimately, it was Titus who capitalized on Wesley's miscalculations, leading to a surprising victory.
