Embarking on a road trip is always an adventure, and our journey from California to Oregon in the ID. Buzz electric vehicle was no exception. With excitement in the air, we packed our bags and hit the road, ready to explore the beautiful landscapes that lay ahead.
After two hours on the road, we found ourselves at 40% battery life and in need of a restroom break. This is a common scenario for any road trip, and it highlights a common misconception about electric vehicles (EVs) – the concern over range. While some may criticize EVs for their limited range, we found that making stops is a natural part of any long drive. We decided to stop for a charge, bathroom break, and snacks, making the most of our time.
During our first charging stop, we charged from 40% to 80% in about 10 to 15 minutes. The convenience of charging stations is a pleasant surprise, especially when you can multitask by grabbing snacks or using the restroom while your vehicle charges. A kind attendant even allowed us to charge for free, which was a nice bonus.
As we continued our journey, we became more accustomed to the charging process. Our next stop was planned for 76 miles ahead, but we decided to drive a bit further before charging again. We were heading towards Midland, Oregon, our destination for the day. The experience of charging an EV is quite different from refueling a gas car, and we were learning as we went along.
Driving through the mountains, we were treated to breathtaking views. The stretch from Mount Shasta to Oregon was particularly stunning, with vast stretches of nature that left us in awe. This was a reminder of the beauty of road trips and the joy of exploring new places.
After a long day of driving, we made our second charging stop. We opted for a slower charger to save money, which also allowed us to catch up on some work while the vehicle charged. The ID. Buzz provided a comfortable workspace, making it easy to balance travel and productivity.
As night fell, we parked at a rest stop in Midland, Oregon. It was around 10 PM, and we prepared our sleeping area inside the vehicle. With the outside temperature dropping to 37°F, we utilized the automatic climate control feature to preheat the car, ensuring a cozy night’s sleep. We bundled up in pajamas and blankets, feeling snug and warm.
The first night in the ID. Buzz was an interesting experience. While we didn’t sleep as soundly as we would have at home, we managed to get some rest. The automatic heating system worked well, keeping us comfortable throughout the night. We woke up around 7 AM, ready to continue our journey.
In the morning, we noticed a slight decrease in battery percentage, likely due to the heating system and the cold weather. We were down to 65% battery, but we were optimistic about the day ahead. Our next destination was Bend, Oregon, where we would check in at Sun River for our next adventure.
