This news was unexpected, as Asaram Bapu was a revered figure with a massive following, including many politicians.
Asaram Bapu, born Asumal Sirumalani in April 1941 near the Sindh River in what is now Pakistan, came from a wealthy Baniya family. His mother instilled religious values in him from a young age, teaching him to worship Lord Krishna. However, the partition of India forced his family to leave their prosperous life in Pakistan and relocate to Ahmedabad, India, where they faced financial struggles.
At the age of 10, tragedy struck when Asumal's father passed away, forcing him to leave school to support his family. He worked various jobs, including driving a cart in Ajmer and working in a relative's shop. Despite his hardships, he remained committed to spirituality and eventually ran away from home to pursue a life as a saint.
In 1964, after a series of spiritual journeys and teachings from various gurus, Asumal adopted the name Sant Sri Asaramji Maharaj. He began his mission in a small hut in Ahmedabad, where he taught Ayurvedic medicine and spirituality.
