Today, we're embarking on a delicious adventure across the pond as we dive into the world of sweet American candy. As a Brit, I’ve heard tales about the delicious treats that the United States is known for. America really does have all sorts of iconic symbols, from the Statue of Liberty to the Hollywood sign, and of course, mouthwatering sweets. Whether it's the classic Hershey's chocolate bars, the nostalgic flavor of Jolly Ranchers, or the gooey goodness of various candies, America has a lot to offer.
In this post, I will be trying a selection of American candies, most of which I have never tasted before. I’ll be ranking each candy out of ten, so let’s see how they fare!
The first item on my list is Kool-Aid, which I have never had before. I’ve heard of it, but I’ve never been near it. After tasting it, I must say I do not understand why Americans drink it. It’s sugary and watery, but perhaps it was just weak. I would rate it a 2 out of 10.
Next up is a candy called Look! At first glance, it resembles dark chocolate, but it’s incredibly tough to bite into. It feels like it has cement in it, and I want to keep my teeth intact. This one also gets a 2 out of 10 from me.
I’ve tried Toxic Waste before during a sour sweets challenge. Opening this package, I was optimistic it would be as sour as I remembered. Surprisingly, it wasn’t very sour at all, but it was quite tasty. I would give it a solid 7 out of 10.
I believe I’ve had Reese’s before, as they are sold in England too. I’m not a massive peanut butter fan, but these are actually quite tasty. I would rate them a 6 out of 10.
Next is a mystery candy that I have no idea about. After tasting it, I found it to be quite hot and tangy, reminiscent of a cough sweet. I would rate this a 2 out of 10.
Laffy Taffy is apparently a massive hit in America. I tried the banana flavor, which I have mixed feelings about. It’s okay, but I would give it a 4 out of 10.
I think I’ve had Warheads before, but I decided to try them again. I popped a few in my mouth, and they were not sour at all, but they tasted good. I would rate them an 8.5 out of 10, making them the current leader.
Next, I tried Mike and Ike, which were quite expensive at $3.99. They tasted like jelly beans and were enjoyable, but not worth the price. I would give them a 7 out of 10.
This candy reminded me of myself, but I wasn’t sure what to expect. It turned out to be more like taffy with an almond flavor. I would rate it a 5 out of 10.
I tried a Tootsie Roll next, and it looked chocolatey. Unfortunately, I preferred the lollipop version over this, giving it a 3 out of 10.
Airheads Bites were next on my list. They were chewy and had a bubblegum flavor. I enjoyed them and would rate them a 7.5 out of 10.
I was skeptical about the peanut butter cookie dough, and after tasting it, I found it to be just okay. I would give it a 4 out of 10.
Nerds are a candy I’ve heard of before. They were a bit sour and very nice. I would rate them an 8 out of 10.
I had never heard of Now and Later before. They looked similar to Starburst but didn’t have a strong flavor. I would rate them a 7 out of 10.
Next was Mr. Goodbar from Hershey’s. It was nice but not worth the $3 price tag. I would give it a 5 out of 10.
I had never tried Jolly Rancher gummies before, but they were delicious! I would rate them a 9.5 out of 10, making them the new leader.
Lastly, I tried bubble gum, which was very sour at first but turned out to be quite nice. I enjoyed it and would rate it a 7 out of 10.
In conclusion, the clear winner of this candy tasting adventure was the Jolly Rancher gummies with a score of 9.5 out of 10. I also enjoyed the Warheads and Nerds, but nothing quite topped the gummies. If you’d like me to try sweets from your country, let me know in the comments!
