Recently, I had the opportunity to test Sailun Tire America's new RoadX RX Quest R/T tires at Bronco Off Rodeo in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. This event provided a perfect backdrop to evaluate the tire's performance on challenging terrains, including rocky trails and steep descents.
Off-roading has become increasingly popular, with the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) reporting that the U.S. off-roading and oversized tire market generates around $2 billion annually. The light truck segment is projected to account for nearly 80% of all new vehicle sales by 2027. This trend underscores the importance of reliable off-road tires like the RoadX RX Quest R/T, designed specifically for trucks and SUVs.
The RoadX RX Quest R/T is engineered for both on and off-road capabilities, available in over 40 sizes. It boasts a 45,000-mile warranty and a three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMS) rating for severe winter conditions. The tire features a rugged tread design with depths ranging from 16/32 to 18/32 inches, promising durability and traction.
Before hitting the trails, I examined the tire's tread and construction. The aggressive tread pattern and robust sidewalls instilled confidence as I prepared for the first test: a rocky downhill stretch. Despite my initial apprehension, the tires performed admirably, providing a secure grip and stability as I navigated the challenging terrain.
As I tackled various obstacles, including steep descents and boulder-strewn paths, the RX Quest R/T tires showcased their grip strength, attributed to their abrasion-resistant rubber and innovative casing design. The sidewall biters enhance traction and stability, making them suitable for adventurous drivers who also require comfort during highway travel.
To understand the tire's development, I spoke with Dwayne Sawyer, Sailun's manager of PLT in Canada. He explained that the tire's design is based on extensive market feedback, ensuring it meets the needs of diverse drivers. The RX Quest R/T is a hybrid between a mud tire and an all-terrain tire, engineered to perform well in various conditions.
Dwayne emphasized the rigorous testing process that Sailun employs, which includes evaluations in different climates and terrains. This thorough approach ensures that the tires can withstand the demands of off-roading while providing reliable performance on highways.
The RoadX RX Quest R/T is positioned as a mid-tier option with tier-one capabilities, catering to consumers seeking value without compromising performance. Dwayne noted that many customers prioritize finding a tire that offers the best value and performance for their specific needs.
After navigating through various challenging terrains, I can confidently say that the RoadX RX Quest R/T tires passed my off-roading test with flying colors. While I did not have the chance to test them on highways, their design suggests they would perform well in that environment too.
