Gabru Di Chaap, a premium soy chaap QSR chain, aims to revolutionize vegetarian dining in India with its diverse menu and high-quality standards. Founders Tarun and Dheer share their journey and seek investment on Shark Tank India to expand their brand further.
In a recent episode of Shark Tank India, the founders of Gabru Di Chaap presented their innovative vegetarian dining concept, aiming to transform the perception of soy chaap in India. With a diverse menu and a commitment to quality, they are on a mission to make soy chaap a household name.
Gabru Di Chaap is India’s first premium soy chaap quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain, established in 2019. The brand seeks to give soy chaap a new identity, offering a variety of dishes ranging from kebabs to biryanis, burgers, and sandwiches. With flavors like malai, tandoori, and Amritsari masala, Gabru Di Chaap is making waves in the Delhi NCR region, although awareness in other parts of India remains low.
The pitch was presented by Tarun from Lucknow and Dheer from Hyderabad. Tarun shared his background, having graduated from IIT Roorkee and worked at various prestigious firms before venturing into the food industry. Dheer, on the other hand, has a strong background in HR and has worked with companies like IBM and L&T. Their combined experience and passion for vegetarian cuisine led them to create Gabru Di Chaap.
Gabru Di Chaap prides itself on its high standards of hygiene and quality. The founders emphasized that their soy chaap contains 23 grams of protein per 100 grams, setting it apart from many street-side vendors who often use subpar ingredients. They aim to create a new category in the vegetarian market, similar to how Belgian waffles became a recognized brand.
Since its inception, Gabru Di Chaap has expanded rapidly, operating 25 outlets across four cities. The founders shared their financial journey, revealing that their revenue has grown significantly over the years, even during the pandemic. They reported revenues of 1.09 crores in their first financial year, which jumped to 9 crores during the COVID year, showcasing their resilience and adaptability.
The founders also highlighted their strategy of focusing on company-operated stores rather than franchise-operated ones to maintain quality and consistency.
During their pitch, Tarun and Dheer sought an investment of 6.99 lakhs for 5% equity. They presented their delicious soy chaap dishes to the sharks, who were impressed by the taste and quality. The sharks engaged in a lively discussion about the potential of the brand and the challenges of scaling in the competitive food industry.
After tasting the food and discussing the business model, the sharks made several offers. One shark proposed an investment at a significantly lower valuation, while another offered a deal that included a royalty on revenue. The founders were faced with tough decisions as they weighed the offers against their vision for the brand.
Gabru Di Chaap is not just about serving delicious vegetarian food; it represents a shift in how vegetarian cuisine is perceived in India. With their commitment to quality and innovative approach, Tarun and Dheer are poised to make a significant impact in the food industry. Their journey on Shark Tank India has validated their concept and opened doors for future growth, making them a brand to watch in the coming years.
