Bethesda reveals The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel without a release date
Bethesda has revealed Sentinel as the subtitle of its next Elder Scrolls role-playing game and confirmed its Hammerfell setting, eight years after announcing the project. Release timing, platforms and a gameplay reveal remain undisclosed.
- The next Elder Scrolls game is officially titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, with Hammerfell confirmed as its setting.
- Bethesda says more information is still some time away; no release date, platforms or gameplay timetable accompanied the reveal.
- The studio previously said the sequel was its main development focus and was being played internally every day.
Bethesda Game Studios, the developer behind Skyrim, Fallout games and Starfield, has named the sixth entry in its Elder Scrolls role-playing series The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The studio and publisher Bethesda Softworks announced the subtitle through a video celebrating Bethesda’s 40th anniversary.
The reveal gives an identity and setting to a project announced in 2018, eight years ago. Its predecessor, Skyrim, has sold more than 65 million copies, Bethesda said in a July 17 studio update. That company-reported cumulative total establishes the series’ commercial scale, rather than a forecast for the sequel.

Hammerfell moves beyond speculation
The teaser shows an Elder Scroll emerging from desert sand before revealing the Sentinel title. Its closing text refers to a queen of Hammerfell, a region in the series’ fantasy world of Tamriel. In the social post reproduced in the linked subtitle announcement, Bethesda explicitly said it was revealing the game’s name and location.
Hammerfell is familiar territory for the franchise. It previously appeared in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, The Elder Scrolls Online and the 1998 action-adventure The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard, as the report’s series history explains. Returning there does not, by itself, establish the new game’s map boundaries or mechanics.
