Meta Strategy Chief David Wehner Joins Fireworks as CFO Ahead of Reported Fundraise

- David Wehner, Meta's strategy chief and former CFO, is joining Fireworks AI as finance chief.
- Fireworks reportedly wants a valuation of at least $30 billion, following a July round announced at $17.5 billion.
- Its growth claims put customer economics and infrastructure spending at the center of the new CFO's brief.
David Wehner, Meta Platforms' chief strategy officer and its CFO for more than eight years before that, is leaving to become chief financial officer of Fireworks AI, a privately held cloud platform for running and customizing AI models. Wehner confirmed the move on X on Friday, according to the appointment report.
The hire comes ahead of another financing push. The same report, citing people familiar with the matter, says Fireworks plans to begin a fundraising round next week targeting a valuation of at least $30 billion. That is a negotiating target; the report supplies neither an agreed valuation nor a fundraising amount.
Fireworks is already operating on a substantially larger financial scale than its October 2025 funding would suggest. In July 2026, it announced a $1.505 billion Series D at a $17.5 billion valuation and said its annualized revenue run rate had surpassed $1 billion. Those figures make Wehner's appointment consequential for a business expanding compute infrastructure while promising customers affordable, customized AI.
