SpaceXAI Says It Will Remove 69 Southaven Turbines by July 2027

Using those rounded equipment ratings, the authorized turbine fleet totals about 1,240.5 MW: 280.5 MW, 560 MW and 400 MW, respectively. That is broadly consistent with SpaceXAI’s 1.2-GW description, but it is a nameplate calculation—not a measure of delivered electricity, utilization or the facility’s demand.

The permit is significant because it establishes conditions for a future operating facility, rather than finding that it is already compliant in practice. MZX Tech must certify construction before operation; initial stack tests are due within 180 days after startup. The permit also requires continuous NOx emissions monitoring for the turbine groups, monthly and rolling 12-month records for listed pollutants, and semiannual reports to the state while the construction permit remains in effect.

The company says the permanent turbines will have selective catalytic reduction and oxidation catalysts. It also says it is fitting the mobile turbines with emissions-control technology and that its monitoring shows local air quality meets or exceeds EPA standards. Those are company assertions; the announcement provides no underlying measurements. The state permit, meanwhile, requires records to be retained for at least five years and makes them available to the agency on request.

The removal pledge sits alongside unresolved disputes

The new 69-turbine figure is not directly comparable with an earlier count in the available reporting. A local report said messages from the environmental agency showed 46 gas turbines at the Stanton Road address in May. The retained material does not establish whether the difference reflects added units, different equipment categories or a different counting date.

That report also says the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People sued SpaceXAI and MZX Tech in April, after a 60-day notice of intent to sue over the Southaven methane-gas turbine operations, and sought to stop the plant’s operations. Residents separately sued in June, alleging excessive turbine noise. Those are claims in litigation, not findings that either company violated the construction permit.

The permit covers air emissions and does not decide the residents’ noise claims. It does, however, require natural gas as fuel for the turbine groups and sets operating limits, including pollutant-specific rolling annual limits, as well as continuous NOx monitoring. SpaceXAI says it is spending millions on sound walls, silencers and quieter turbine technology and reconfigures operations to reduce noise; those measures remain company-reported rather than independently verified in the retained sources.

What would turn the pledge into evidence

The next observable event is whether temporary turbines actually begin leaving the site in August. The more important documents are the signed agreed order, construction certification, startup notice, initial tests and the first semiannual emissions reports.

Until those records are public, the strongest supported conclusion is narrow: SpaceXAI has announced a dated plan to replace a temporary fleet with a permitted permanent natural-gas fleet. Whether it removes all 69 units on time, and whether the new equipment meets its operating conditions, remains to be shown by the regulatory record.
