Trump Media Is Selling Fast Truth Social Data. The Key Question Is Timing
Trump Media's Truth API offers licensed, machine-readable delivery of selected Truth Social posts to institutional customers. Its commercial appeal rests on the speed with which traders receive communications from President Donald Trump and other officials, but the available accounts leave unresolved exactly what advantage buyers receive.
- Truth API is a licensed, machine-readable feed of posts from selected prominent Truth Social accounts, aimed at institutional customers.
- Trump Media says it delivers posts in milliseconds; reporting describes the service as offering Wall Street traders “sneak peeks.” The retained evidence does not establish how those descriptions fit together.
- The product could add recurring licensing revenue to a small media business, but its value and the conflict concerns both depend on the actual timing and terms of access.
Trump Media & Technology Group is trying to turn the speed of a presidential social-media post into a business. Its new Truth API licenses data from selected Truth Social accounts to institutional customers, including firms that trade automatically. The central account is President Donald Trump, the sitting U.S. president, Truth Social’s most-followed user and, through his trust, a majority shareholder in the publicly traded company that operates the platform, as reporting on the service explains.
That combination makes the feed different from a generic social-data product. Trump has repeatedly used Truth Social to announce policy and government actions before they emerge through formal channels. His posts have moved markets, according to the reporting. The question is not whether a faster machine-readable feed is useful in principle; it is whether it gives paying customers an advantage over the broader public, and if so, how.
What the company says it is selling
In its July 16 announcement, TMTG described Truth API as a business-to-business service offering licensed, real-time access to posts from the platform’s “highest-ranking” accounts. It said the system would use standard delivery methods to send posts in milliseconds, run continuously and include an archive reaching back to 2022. The release said availability to institutional customers was anticipated from Aug. 1 and said it had signed customers and was onboarding more partners.
Kevin McGurn, TMTG’s interim chief executive, is a former executive at Shazam, Hulu, Vevo and T-Mobile who has spent much of his career in revenue and growth roles at media and technology companies. He told a report that the initial API would cover the platform’s top 10 trending accounts. The set includes Trump, the White House, FBI Director Kash Patel, White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.; customers could pay for more accounts later, McGurn said.
