Unitree’s As2-W puts wheel-leg claims ahead of deployment proof
Unitree’s As2-W pairs powered wheels with a quadruped chassis and advertises fast travel over rough terrain. Its official page, however, leaves price unpublished and gives materially different range figures, while launch coverage conflicts on core specifications—making a working deployment the meaningful next test.

Unitree Robotics, the Chinese legged-robot maker that released the As2 quadruped earlier in 2026, has introduced the As2-W, a wheel-legged variant designed to roll over open ground and step across obstacles. It is a hardware proposition with a clear use case: add wheels to a four-legged machine to pursue wheeled efficiency without surrendering all-terrain mobility.
The commercial case is less settled. Unitree’s own page calls its data laboratory results that may vary with use, lists both the X and EDU versions as “Contact Sales,” and says some shown features remain under development and testing. That makes its performance figures and development-platform claims useful specifications, not evidence of a repeatable inspection, logistics or rescue deployment.

What Unitree is actually offering
The As2-W follows the earlier As2, to which it adds four active wheels, as launch coverage describes. Unitree lists a 648 Wh battery, 7-inch wheels, IP54 dust and water resistance, 64- to 128-line LiDAR, an HD camera, an eight-core CPU, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. GPS and 4G are available but disabled by default until the user authorizes them.
The company also says the platform supports secondary development through an SDK and APIs, with an optional 150 TOPS compute expansion for on-device processing. Those choices make the As2-W a configurable robotics platform rather than a single-purpose appliance. They do not, by themselves, establish how reliably a customer can use a particular sensor stack or autonomy function in a task.
Unitree markets the machine for security, inspection and other advanced applications. Separate retained reporting also describes cargo transport, research, outdoor work and search-and-rescue as intended applications. One says Unitree has announced neither a defence deployment nor a military role for the As2-W. The launch evidence supports a civilian product, not a defence programme.
