Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said the Claude developer has signed supply deals with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. The available disclosures show a useful infrastructure relationship, but not an HBM purchase, a dedicated allocation or a claim on either supplier’s output.
Anthropic, the U.S. developer of the Claude family of AI models, has signed supply deals with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, its chief executive Dario Amodei said at a South Korean AI summit. The account of his remarks published by Reuters says he gave no further details.
That qualifier defines the news. Samsung and SK hynix are not interchangeable vendors: Anthropic had already named them, with Micron, as strategic infrastructure partners whose technologies matter to the supply of memory, storage and logic chips in its May funding announcement. But the public record does not say whether the new Samsung and SK hynix arrangements cover high-bandwidth memory (HBM), another memory product, storage, logic components, or a mix; it also gives no volumes, delivery period, price, exclusivity or share of output.
The deals are therefore evidence of a closer supply relationship, not evidence that Anthropic has obtained a specified slice of the HBM market or that either supplier has set aside capacity for it.
Anthropic’s May funding announcement put the supplier relationships in a larger infrastructure plan. The company said it raised $65 billion at a $965 billion post-money valuation and had agreements for up to five gigawatts of new Amazon capacity, five gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity with Google and Broadcom, and GPU capacity in SpaceX’s Colossus 1 and Colossus 2. Those are company disclosures, not a measure of chips delivered or memory reserved.
The funding announcement also said Amazon Web Services remained Anthropic’s primary cloud provider and training partner. Together, the commitments show the Claude developer seeking several routes to the computing capacity it says it needs as demand grows, rather than relying on a single memory supplier or cloud provider.
Micron, the third memory supplier named by Anthropic, provided a clearer description in June. It said its agreement with Anthropic spans memory and storage architecture design, a supply agreement, Claude’s enterprise use at Micron, and Micron’s Series H investment. Tom Brown, Anthropic’s co-founder and chief compute officer, said memory and storage are central to efficiently training and serving Claude in Micron’s announcement.
Even that primary account does not publish quantities or committed capacity. It supports the conclusion that Anthropic is building longer-term supplier links; it does not provide an allocation that can be compared with global HBM output.
HBM is stacked memory used in AI servers. The March industry report, drawing on other reporting and its own projection, put SK hynix at 50% of 2026 global HBM bit output and Samsung at 28%, versus 59% and 20%, respectively, in 2025. Those are projections of total bit output, not contracts, and they cannot be converted into a buyer’s supply share.
The same report said allocation and pricing for Nvidia’s Vera Rubin HBM4 were still unsettled. It also described a capacity trade-off: vendors were reassessing how much production to devote to HBM versus conventional DRAM as conventional-DRAM prices rose. That is a reminder that output-share forecasts do not settle which customer receives which product—or on what commercial terms.
Samsung’s role brings another possible, but unconfirmed, dimension. It is the only one of Anthropic’s three named memory partners that also designs and manufactures logic chips, and a May report said its investment in Anthropic was expected to lay groundwork for a chip-design or manufacturing deal. The report described an expectation, not a signed manufacturing agreement.

The Korean summit was also a demonstration of how many buyers want access to the same industrial base. The Reuters account says South Korea announced $950 billion in new AI initiatives involving Samsung, SK Group and U.S. technology companies. It put SK Group’s signed deals at $750 billion, including an SK hynix–Nvidia partnership valued at more than $500 billion, and said Samsung signed a Broadcom memorandum covering up to $200 billion across memory, foundry services and advanced packaging.
SK hynix’s own June announcement describes its Nvidia arrangement as a multi-year technology partnership for next-generation memory. It covers co-development aligned with Nvidia’s AI-infrastructure roadmap and supports supply for advanced memory, from frontier-model training to agentic and physical-AI systems. That is more specific about the product-development relationship than what is public about Anthropic’s two Korean supply deals.
It does not prove that Nvidia has priority over Anthropic, nor does it disclose an allocation. It does show why an assertion of exclusive supplier control by any one AI developer would go beyond the evidence.
The next meaningful evidence would be contract terms or supplier disclosures that answer four questions:
Until then, the confirmed development is narrower but still consequential: a well-funded frontier-model developer is adding direct relationships with major suppliers as it builds out computing capacity. The unresolved question is not whether HBM is strategically important; it is whether the undisclosed deals actually secure it for Anthropic.
