Tencent brings Hy4 computer use to its apps, with weights still to come
Tencent has launched Hy4 with visual reasoning and computer operation across its AI applications and cloud services, keeping standard API prices unchanged. The new version’s weights remain pending, while Tencent acknowledges a substantial gap with leading closed models.
- Hy4 adds visual reasoning and computer operation to Tencent’s AI applications and hosted model services.
- Standard API prices match the preview, with temporary discounts and free usage quotas at launch.
- Tencent promises the new version’s weights and fuller safety evaluations, while acknowledging a substantial gap with leading closed models.
Tencent Holdings, the Chinese technology group developing the Hunyuan AI model family and operating Tencent Cloud, launched its flagship Hy4 model on November 4. It adds visual understanding and the ability to operate computers through graphical interfaces and command-line tools, extending the tasks users can attempt through Tencent’s software.
The launch gives Tencent another route to compete through its applications, beyond claims about model rankings. Hy4 is available through Tencent Cloud TokenHub, WorkBuddy, its workplace assistant, and CodeBuddy, its coding tool, as well as Yuanbao, ima and the WeCom intelligent assistant Dayuan, according to the launch report. The company presents office collaboration, financial analysis and software development as intended uses.
But hosted availability is ahead of the promised release of model weights—the learned parameters needed to run the model independently. Tencent says Hy4 ranks among the strongest open-weight models while acknowledging a substantial gap with leading closed systems on difficult internal tests, as described in the release coverage. That is the developer’s assessment, not an independently established ranking.

A new capability for an existing workplace strategy
Tencent says Hy4 combines visual perception, reasoning and tool use for fine image processing, complex chart analysis and mathematical questions containing images. It says targeted training covered professional software including Blender and CAD applications, along with lengthy tasks spanning several applications.
Compared with Hy4 preview, Tencent reports expanded pre-training and post-training and improvements in instruction following, long-document understanding, long-running tasks and deep research. The also says Hy4 is available on OpenRouter, an additional route beyond Tencent’s own services. These accounts describe intended capabilities; they do not independently measure workplace productivity gains.
