- Uber president Jill Hazelbaker, a decade-long veteran of the company, will lead OpenAI’s global communications and corporate positioning.
- She will report to Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president and co-founder.
- Her new remit covers reputation and public engagement; her Uber responsibilities also included policy, safety and people teams.
Jill Hazelbaker, president and chief corporate affairs officer at consumer technology platform Uber, will join OpenAI as chief corporate affairs officer after a decade at Uber and earlier communications leadership roles at Snap and Google. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, said in its appointment announcement that she will lead global communications and corporate positioning, working across its leadership to deepen public understanding of AI and strengthen trust in its mission.
The appointment puts an executive with experience in technology regulation, corporate reputation and political campaigns in charge of explaining OpenAI to a growing public and business audience.

A communications mandate, with a broader background
Hazelbaker will report to Brockman, according to the report on her move. Her remit includes global communications and reputation, corporate brand and positioning, social media, cultural and community partnerships, and convenings.
Brockman framed her selection around the need to earn public trust as AI becomes part of more people’s lives. OpenAI cited her experience advising technology companies and political leaders through growth and major challenges.
Her previous authority was broader than the responsibilities OpenAI has announced. At Uber, she oversaw communications, marketing, public policy, safety and people teams. OpenAI’s announcement assigns her communications and positioning work without specifying authority over its policy or safety organizations.
Hazelbaker joined Uber in 2015 as vice president of policy communications and became president and chief corporate affairs officer in May 2026, according to the account of her career. That expanded portfolio included human resources, recruiting and real estate.
