Apple Watch beta adds conversation rewind and cloud-generated summaries
The watchOS 27.3 developer beta brings Live Rewind and Siri Recap to Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. The opt-in tools offer brief transcripts and conversation summaries, but require a compatible iPhone and carry Apple warnings about accuracy and sensitive information.
- Live Rewind retrieves 15 seconds of speech as text; Siri Recap produces conversation summaries.
- Both require a Series 12 or Ultra 4 watch, a supported iPhone and Apple's AI features.
- Apple says raw audio is isolated and deleted, but warns that generated text can be incomplete or inaccurate.
Apple has released the first developer beta of watchOS 27.3, adding Live Rewind and Siri Recap to its Apple Watch smartwatch range. The tools extend Audio Intelligence, its suite of sound and speech features, from recognizing sounds and songs to helping wearers recall conversations.
The features were announced in September alongside Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. Their arrival fulfills Apple's promise to make them available in beta this year; it is a developer test release, with hardware and regional restrictions, rather than a general rollout.

A snippet on demand, a summary in the background
Both features are opt-in. Live Rewind shows a text snippet of the previous 15 seconds of speech when the wearer double-presses the Digital Crown, the watch's physical dial. Users can ask Siri, Apple's assistant, about the snippet or save it in the Siri app. Apple says transcription does not continue beyond that snippet.
Siri Recap instead generates a title and key points from conversations while enabled, using Apple Intelligence, the company's AI system. It produces a high-level summary rather than a full transcript. Users can enable it through the Watch app on iPhone, schedule it by time, location or both, and switch it on or off through the watch's Control Center. Summaries can be reviewed in the Siri app on iPhone and automatically delete after seven days unless saved.
These are additions to an existing platform. A report on the beta notes that Sound Recognition and Shazam music recognition are already available on the supported watches. The new functions change what the watch does with speech; they do not mark the debut of its ambient sound tools.
